PROGRAM GOALS
EMCSD’s Credentialed Counseling Program’s goals are organized and aligned with ASCA’s three domains: academic development, career development, and social-emotional development. These domains promote mindsets and behaviors that augment the learning process and create a culture that promotes college readiness, career readiness, and life readiness.
Academic Goals:
- To support students in gaining the attitudes, knowledge, and skills that contribute to effective learning activity undertaken in school and throughout life.
- To support students in obtaining the necessary skills and knowledge to allow them to choose from a wide spectrum of post-secondary options.
- To support students in understanding the relationship between academics, post-secondary options, home life, and community involvement.
Career Goals:
- To support students in acquiring self-awareness of their abilities, skills, interests, and motivations to investigate post-secondary options and make informed decisions.
- To support students in employing strategies to obtain post-secondary goals with success not at the expense of satisfaction.
- To support students in discovering the relationship between personal qualities, education, and training to post-secondary success.
Social-Emotional Goals:
- To support students in acquiring the self knowledge and interpersonal skills to help them to better understand themselves and to also learn to better understand others.
- To support students in the decision making and problem solving skills necessary in making and achieving realistic but challenging goals.
- To support students in acquiring the personal safety skills necessary to successfully navigate through challenging situations and serve as a buffer from the effects of adversity.
